KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 09 | Bernama --
A former chief secretary to the government and a former secretary-general of a ministry are holding chairman posts of between 30 to 40 government companies, the Dewan Negara was told Thursday.
Senator Datuk Ridzuan Abd Hamid said although there was nothing wrong with the appointments, the number of chairman posts held by former senior government officers should be restricted.
"Do not let them hold the posts for too long, a two-year extension is suffice. Let others have a chance. Many KSUs (secretaries-general) are waiting out there.
"To let one person holding the posts up to between 30 and 40 companies is unreasonable. Are other people not good enough?" he said when debating on the Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (Special Provision)(Amendment) Bill 2008.
Ridzuan's remarks were supported by several senators including Senator Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, who said senators should also be given a chance to hold the chairman posts.
He said the practice of extending the contracts of senior government officers should also be reviewed.
The Dewan Negara resumes sitting on Monday.
